Philadelphia 76ers center Joel Embiid ignited fresh friction with new teammate Jaylen Brown by publicly declaring during an ESPN interview that Brown stood no chance of stopping him during past playoff duels, as reported by bebasket.fr. The remarks come just months after the two players clashed on the court during a postseason series, creating immediate questions about how the star duo will coexist under head coach Nick Nurse as the 2026–27 National Basketball Association season approaches.

The latest verbal jab arrived during an interview segment on ESPN where Embiid evaluated his history against his newly acquired teammate. bebasket.fr reported that the 2023 Most Valuable Player recalled their intense postseason encounters. J’ai eu de nombreux duels avec lui, Embiid stated.

The Cameroonian big man continued his assessment by pointing to their physical matchups.

Jaylen Brown Criticizes Flopping After Postseason Elimination

The tension between the two players stems from public comments made in May following a hard-fought playoff series. basketsession.com reported that Brown took aim at Embiid during a Twitch broadcast, arguing that excessive theatrical fouls damage the sport. Ce n’est pas nouveau mais c’est comme ça, Brown stated during the live stream.

Basketsession.com noted that Brown’s remarks quickly resurfaced on social media platforms after the blockbuster trade sent the forward from the Boston Celtics to Philadelphia. While Brown praised the center’s elite interior skills, he maintained strict disapproval of exaggerating contact.

Philadelphia Roster Expectations Clash With Public Sparring

The public friction has intensified scrutiny over how Philadelphia will manage chemistry across a star-studded lineup. bebasket.fr highlighted that questions regarding the egos and on-court balance of players like Embiid and Brown are mounting ahead of the regular season.

Yahoo.com reported that the acquisition of Brown from Boston caught many observers off guard, particularly coming so soon after the Celtics surrendered a 3-1 series lead to Philadelphia. Paired alongside guard Tyrese Maxey, the restructured roster carries championship expectations that require immediate cooperation.

76ers and Celtics Meet in October Preseason Games

The two players will need to align quickly as the preseason calendar approaches. Yahoo.com reported that the 76ers and Celtics are scheduled to meet for two exhibition games on Saturday, October 10, and Friday, October 16, though heavy minutes from star starters remain unlikely during those tune-ups.

Yahoo.com confirmed that the first official regular-season meeting between Philadelphia and Boston takes place on Tuesday, November 10, in Philadelphia. It remains unknown whether the two stars will continue exchanging public banter or successfully put their history behind them before the opening tip.
