Moygownagh Mourns the Loss of John Byrne

John Byrne, Carne, Moygownagh, Ballina, County Mayo, has passed away, leaving behind a legacy of family and community. His death marks a significant loss for the close-knit community of Moygownagh and beyond.

Mr. Byrne was the beloved husband of the late Maeve and son of the late John and Bridget Byrne. He is survived by his sons, Eoin, Diarmaid, and Cormac, as well as his sisters, Mary and Breege. He also leaves behind his daughter-in-law, Laura, and granddaughters, Maeve and Moira, along with numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

A statement released by the family expressed their deep sadness at his passing, stating, “Sadly missed by his loving sons, sisters, daughter-in-law, grand-daughters, sister-in-law, brother-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends. May he rest in Peace.”

Reposing will take place at Hiney’s Funeral Home, Crossmolina, on Monday evening, February 9th, 2026, from 5:00 PM, with removal at 7:00 PM to St. Cormac’s Church, Moygownagh.

Requiem Mass will be held on Tuesday, February 10th, 2026, at 12:00 noon, followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery. For those unable to attend in person, the Funeral Mass can be viewed online at www.churchtv.ie/moygownagh.

The family has requested that those wishing to express their condolences use the online message of sympathy link provided. This allows friends and neighbors to offer support during this difficult time.

The passing of John Byrne is deeply felt within the community, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew him. Details regarding the family’s wishes for donations or further memorial arrangements were not immediately available.
