John Reilly Announces Retirement from Professional Cycling

After a distinguished 20-year career, Irish cyclist John Reilly announced his retirement from professional racing on August 28, 2024. The 35-year-old, known for his versatility and sportsmanship, cited a desire to spend more time with family and pursue other interests as the primary reasons for his decision.

Reilly’s journey to the professional ranks wasn’t immediate. He began cycling relatively late, initially focusing on Gaelic football before transitioning to the bike in his late teens.
