Surakarta,Central Java – Former President Joko “jokowi” Widodo has emphasized the importance of prioritizing citizens’ aspirations for the United Advancement Party (PPP),according to senior PPP politician Sandiaga Uno.
Uno, who served as tourism minister under Jokowi’s administration, revealed the former president’s message following a meeting at Jokowi’s private residence in Surakarta on Thursday.
“He has instructed the party to transform itself to become a political party that is closer to the people, paying attention to people’s economic prosperity,” Uno said.
While Jokowi stressed the need for the PPP to connect with the people,Uno clarified that there were no plans to invite the former president to join the Islam-based party.
“I don’t have the courage to ask him to join the party,” Uno admitted.
This meeting comes just days after Gerindra Party central board member and People’s Consultative assembly (MPR) chair Ahmad Muzani visited Jokowi in Surakarta.Muzani conveyed an invitation from Gerindra Party chairman Prabowo Subianto for Jokowi to attend the party’s anniversary event in February.
