Jon Stewart, best known for his decades-long career in comedy-including hosting Teh daily Show-has embraced a new passion: drumming. This unexpected turn began after his retirement from the show, when he took up drumming as a hobby. He previously worked as a bartender in the 1980s at City Gardens, a legendary rock club in Trenton, New Jersey.
From Lessons to the Stage
stewart’s newfound musical outlet has evolved into Church And State™, a band featuring his drum instructor, Andy Bova.The band has played a limited number of performances, culminating in a high-profile gig at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, on Friday, April 25, 2025.
Notably, the Stone Pony show coincided with Stewart’s birthday-a fact the author shares with readers. During a subsequent appearance on a part-time basis on The Daily Show, Stewart described the performance as “fun as shit.”
