Jonathan Lekkerimaki’s NHL Debut: Canucks Prospect Ready to Shine After Brock Boeser Injury
Jonathan Lekkerimäki Recalled by the Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks have recalled top prospect Jonathan Lekkerimäki from their AHL affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. This move follows his impressive performance in the AHL, where he scored five goals and two assists in just seven games, totaling seven points[4%.
Lekkerimäki, 20, was selected 15th overall in the 2022 NHL Draft. He recently played in the Swedish SHL for Orebro HK, scoring 19 goals and 31 points in 46 games, and also led the World Junior Championships in goals with seven, earning him the tournament’s MVP award[4].
The recall is partly due to injuries within the Canucks roster, particularly the day-to-day absence of Brock Boeser. Lekkerimäki is expected to fill this gap and potentially play in a top-six role. He has been a significant play-driver for Abbotsford, registering at least five shots in six of his seven games[1][3][4].
In conjunction with Lekkerimäki’s recall, the Canucks have assigned forwards Arshdeep Bains and Nils Åman, along with goalie Artūrs Šilovs, to Abbotsford. Goalie Ty Young has also been recalled from Abbotsford[4].
Lekkerimäki could make his NHL debut soon, with the Canucks set to face the Calgary Flames on November 12[4]. This opportunity will test his readiness for the NHL and provide insight into his potential as a key player for the Canucks.
