SAN DIEGO – Jose Iglesias played⁢ the role of hero Sunday,driving ⁢in ⁢all three‌ runs as the san Diego⁤ Padres edged the Kansas City Royals 3-2 at petco Park. The victory secured the Padres’ first‍ series win since‍ early June.

Before the game, the Padres activated All-Star center fielder‍ Jackson Merrill from the injured list, ⁤optioning outfielder ⁢Brandon ​Lockridge to‌ triple-A​ El Paso. manager Mike Shildt ‌adjusted the lineup, placing Merrill in⁤ the second‌ spot ​and moving Luis ⁤Arraez to cleanup.

Despite expectations, Randy Vasquez and​ Seth Lugo engaged in a pitcher’s duel. vasquez pitched five shutout innings, while ​Lugo​ retired 18 consecutive Padres after ‍Fernando‍ tatis ​Jr.’s leadoff single.
