Before the game, the Padres activated All-Star center fielder‍ Jackson Merrill from the injured list, ⁤optioning outfielder ⁢Brandon Lockridge to triple-A El Paso. manager Mike Shildt adjusted the lineup, placing Merrill in⁤ the second spot and moving Luis ⁤Arraez to cleanup.

Despite expectations, Randy Vasquez and Seth Lugo engaged in a pitcher’s duel. vasquez pitched five shutout innings, while Lugo retired 18 consecutive Padres after ‍Fernando‍ tatis Jr.’s leadoff single.
