Jose Luis Ballester, the reigning U.S.Amateur champion from Spain, is making his professional debut at this week’s LIV Golf event in Virginia.Ballester, known as Josele, has signed a multiyear contract with the saudi-backed league.
Ballester will join the Fireballs team, led by fellow Spaniard Sergio garcia. Garcia expressed his excitement about Ballester joining the team, noting their long-standing relationship. “We are very excited about Josele joining the team,” Garcia said. “Personally,I have known him as he could pick up a golf club and he has worked with my father as his coach throughout his golf career.” The move marks a significant shift in Ballester’s career, as he forgoes other tour opportunities to compete in the LIV Golf League.
The 21-year-old ballester recently wrapped up his senior season at Arizona State University,the alma mater of LIV Golf stars Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson. He had a strong showing in the PGA Tour University standings, finishing third and earning full status on the Korn Ferry tour. However, he declined membership, according to Golf Channel.
Despite missing the cut at the Masters in April, Ballester gained notoriety for an incident where he relieved himself in Rae’s Creek on the 13th hole.
