Jose Luis Ballester, the reigning U.S. Amateur champion, is ⁤making his professional debut at this week’s LIV Golf Virginia event. The 21-year-old will play for Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, having inked​ a multi-year contract with LIV Golf.

Ballester, ranked No. 5 in the World Amateur Golf ‌Ranking, recently concluded his⁣ senior season at Arizona⁢ State University. His victory at the 2024 U.S. Amateur saw him defeat Noah Kent in a 36-hole final at ​Hazeltine National golf Club⁣ last August. He also ​boasts​ wins⁤ at the⁣ 2023 European Amateur and 2020 Spanish ‍amateur.

“We⁢ are very excited about Josele joining the⁤ team,”⁤ Garcia said. “Personally,I have known him as he could pick up a golf club,and he has worked with my father as his coach throughout his golf career. Josele ⁢is ‍going to be a great addition not​ only to the Fireballs ​but also to the LIV League, and‌ I can’t wait to be with him​ by his side as he makes his⁢ professional debut.”

Ballester’s appearance at the Masters in⁣ April saw him miss the cut by eight strokes. He drew attention when he relieved himself in Rae’s Creek during the first⁢ round. As the current U.S. Amateur champion, he is​ slated ⁢to compete at the U.S.Open at Oakmont next week.
