Josh Brolin & Julia Garner Clash in ‘Weapons’ – Strong Off-Screen Bond
‘Weapons‘ Cast on Why horror Needs Comedy Greats: “ItS Been doing Better Lately But…”
The cast of the upcoming horror-comedy Weapons is praising director Zach Cregger for assembling a uniquely talented ensemble, bringing a fresh dynamic too the genre.Starring John Leguizamo, Justin Benson, and Tony Revolori, the film blends scares with sharp wit, a combination the actors believe is crucial for modern horror.
A New Breed of Horror Talent
Cregger intentionally sought actors known for their comedic timing, believing it would elevate the horror elements. “I was looking for actors who are incredible at comedy so they can live in the same kind of tone,” he explained. He highlighted a shift in the horror landscape, acknowledging its recent improvements but noting a historical lack of high-caliber talent typically drawn to the genre. “The horror genre sometimes gets a little sidelined in terms of talent. It’s been doing a lot better lately but you don’t usually get to attract people of their caliber to projects like this one. I feel really fortunate to have them and the entire cast.”
This approach resonates with Alden ehrenreich, who stars alongside Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, June Diane Raphael, Luke Speakman, Benedict Wong, Clayton Ferris, Toby Huss, and Whitmer Thomas. Ehrenreich shared with The hollywood Reporter that the script immediately stood out. “It was one of the best scripts that I’ve ever read, and then I met Zach and he explained where it was coming from, it all made perfect sense because he’s writing about real human experience. he’s not just writing fanfare for people to digest as entertainment.”
He continued, emphasizing the importance of a director’s vision.”When you’re working on something that’s from someone’s vision, it just makes it all so much better. I just loved it. It’s one of my favourite films I’ve worked on.”
Beyond Scares: The power of Authentic Storytelling
The cast’s enthusiasm points to a growing trend in horror: a desire for narratives grounded in genuine human emotion. Weapons appears to be tapping into this, aiming to deliver more then just jump scares. Cregger’s focus on “real human experience” suggests a story that explores relatable themes through the lens of horror and comedy. This blend is what excites the actors, offering them the chance to deliver nuanced performances within a thrilling and entertaining framework.
