Anthony Joshua Announces Retirement Plans Despite Loss to Daniel DuBois
Anthony Joshua has announced plans to retire from boxing despite losing to Daniel DuBois for the IBF world heavyweight title on Saturday.
Dubois dominated Joshua, knocking the 34-year-old down in all but one of the rounds before ending the fight with a powerful right-hand counter.
At the post-fight press conference, the two-time world heavyweight champion insisted he would continue fighting.
“They’re probably asking me if I want to keep fighting. Of course I want to keep fighting,” Joshua said at the post-fight press conference.
Joshua reflected on the loss, saying, “We tried to succeed and failed. What does that mean now? Do we run away, or do we survive and fight another day?
“That’s what I do. I’m a fighter. And before we finish, we have to give credit to our opponent, Daniel.
“When I sign up to fight an opponent, I no longer like that opponent in my head, but now that it’s over, I want to take my hat off to him and say well done to him and his team.
“And thanks to my teammates for preparing me. There were a few mistakes, but that’s the name of the game, and fine margins cost you at the top level.”
