Bénin, March 5, 2025 — Too mark International Women’s Day, the Wikimedia Foundation is highlighting efforts to close the gender gap on Wikipedia.
“Le savoir est humain. Le savoir, c’est elle.”: A Campaign for Gender Equality
The Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit organization behind Wikipedia and othre Wikimedia projects, has launched the campaign “Le savoir est humain. Le savoir,c’est elle.” This initiative celebrates contributors working to bridge the gender gap on the free encyclopedia by creating and enriching articles about notable women.
Commitment to Better representation of Women on Wikipedia
With over 64 million articles, Wikipedia stands as the largest collaborative encyclopedia in history. though,contributions about women remain underrepresented,reflecting historical biases in traditional sources of knowledge. For several years, the Wikimedia Foundation and its global community of volunteers have been working to correct this imbalance.
The underrepresentation of women is a key issue. The Wikimedia Foundation is actively trying to fix this.

A librarian by training, she meticulously verifies her sources and translates articles into Swahili to make this information accessible to 95% of the Kenyan population. In 2020, she was among the top 100 contributors in Africa in the #1Bib1Ref campaign.

Agbenomba Abigaïl (Bénin)
With over 9,000 contributions and the creation of 270 articles in French, Agbenomba Abigaïl actively promotes gender equality. her involvement in the Gender Equality campaign in Benin has led to the creation of 660 new articles and the advancement of 1,150 existing pages on Wikipedia. she also leads training sessions to encourage more women to join the Wikimedia community.
