JTBC has announced that the production team for ‘최강야구’ Season 4 has been finalized. This proclamation comes amidst ongoing disputes regarding production costs and the direction of the program.
JTBC Addresses Concerns and Announces Season 4
On March 13, 2025, JTBC addressed the viewers directly, stating, “We apologize for the confusion caused to viewers during the reorganization process of ‘최강야구.’ As the sole owner of the ‘최강야구’ IP,we have issued an official statement to prevent 출연자 (cast members) and 스태프 (staff) from being harmed by unauthorized filming.”
The network further clarified its position regarding 스튜디오 C1, stating, “스튜디오 C1, which does not have the production rights for ‘최강야구,’ is still making arguments that deviate from the point without disclosing the details of production cost execution.”
JTBC also announced its intention to pursue legal action, stating, “We are preparing for legal procedures and will no longer make wasteful statements. We have now completed the production team composition for the new season of ‘최강야구’ and will return with Season 4 as soon as possible.”
Background of the Controversy
‘최강야구’ is a program where the 11th baseball team, formed as the 최강 몬스터즈, plays against professional baseball teams and strong teams from across the country. Season 3 concluded on March 10th. However, prior to Season 4, conflicting views between JTBC and 장시원 PD regarding the tryout schedule for selecting new players led to speculation of internal conflict.
Following this,JTBC issued a statement regarding 스튜디오 C1 (hereafter ‘C1’),where 장시원 PD is affiliated,stating,”It is estimated that ‘C1’ excessively charged production costs ranging from hundreds of millions to billions of won during the three seasons of ‘최강야구.’ According to the joint production agreement between the two companies, the production costs must be transparently disclosed as not being used for purposes other than pure production costs.”
장시원 PD’s Rebuttal
In response, 장시원 PD stated, “I don’t know why C1, which is an autonomous corporation and not an affiliate of JTBC, has to disclose production cost details to JTBC, but JTBC has no grounds to demand this in the first place. If JTBC has legal or contractual rights as they claim, and if ther is suspicion of problems with the filming and production cost usage of ‘최강야구,’ they should present evidence accordingly and take legal action.”
