Mets’ Brett Baty Gifts and Gracious Gestures between Soto: Big League Gratitude

New York—New York Mets infielder Brett Baty may have traded his No. 22 jersey, but he gained more than just a new uniform number. He received a brand new car as a token of gratitude from teammate Juan Soto.

The exchange was a gesture of courtesy and a common practice in Major League Baseball, where incoming stars often prefer specific jersey numbers that may already be allocated. Juan Soto, who gifted Baty the car, had a history of wearing the number 22 since the start of his Major League Baseball journey, it was said. The gifting harkens back to another memorable exchange in the MLB: Shohei Ohtani’s unforgettable introduction to the Los Angeles Dodgers last winter, when the standout traded his favorite Toyota for a Porsche for Joe Kelly, Ohtani bought a Porsche for Kelly’s wife upon becoming a Dodger.

“This is a common tactic whenever a newly acquired star has a preferred jersey number that’s already occupied,”

Soto’s position as one of baseball’s elite players is undisputed, as evidenced by his massive $765 million contract with the Mets, boasting a hefty $121.9 million salary for 2025. His impactful play and high salaries underscore his significance, even before he steps into Citi Field.

that only a few things separate Soto’s contract to his Major League team but the numbers always tells the magnificent story of professional excellence.

” The four-time All-Star could purchase an entire fleet of SUVs for Baty and it wouldn’t be a drop in the bucket in terms of his bank account.”
Baty, on the other hand, would’ve had to save up to get a car this luxurious.

Batting showing Brett says.'I worth it.

Baty’s contract currently values at $800,000 for the season, and he still requires another year before the eligibility criteria for 2027 arbitrations are met. This was a moment of justifications for signing by Soto which was immediatetook place in the october calling the team to address the missing elements that were counted for winning the World Series Championship.

For Baty, the payoff from Soto’s arrival was immediate.

“The Mets will have to wait a few months to start reaping the full dividends of signing Soto. They’re looking to the transcendent slugger to help get them over the hump in October, and his tenure in the Big Apple will be judged largely on whether the franchise lifts a World Series championship.”
