Judge Refuses to Dismiss Rape Lawsuit Against Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks Sexual Assault Lawsuit Moves Forward Despite Dismissal Attempt
Los Angeles, CA – A sexual assault and battery lawsuit against country music icon Garth Brooks will proceed after a US judge denied the singer’s motion to dismiss the case. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court in October, accuses brooks of rape and repeated unwanted sexual conduct towards a former employee in 2019.
The woman, who remains anonymous, alleges that brooks exposed himself, groped her breasts, and ultimately raped her in a hotel room. She claims the trauma from the alleged assault was so severe that she contemplated suicide.
Brooks, a two-time Grammy winner, had sought to dismiss the California lawsuit, arguing it was a duplicate of a defamation suit he filed against the accuser in Mississippi in September. However, US District Judge Michael Fitzgerald ruled against Brooks’ motion, temporarily pausing the California proceedings until the outcome of pending motions in Mississippi.Jeanne Christensen, the accuser’s attorney, expressed confidence in holding Brooks accountable for his alleged actions. ”Brooks’ efforts to silence our client through the filing of a pre-emptive complaint in Mississippi was nothing other than an act of desperation and attempted intimidation,” Christensen stated.
Brooks has vehemently denied the allegations, characterizing the California lawsuit as an attempt at extortion. “Hush money, no matter how much or how little, is still hush money. In my mind, that means I am admitting to behavior I am incapable of – ugly acts no human shoudl ever do to another,” Brooks said in a previous statement.
The accuser’s lawsuit alleges that Brooks exploited her financial hardship, forcing her to continue working for him despite the alleged abuse. Brooks maintains his innocence, stating, “I trust the system, I do not fear the truth, and I am not the man they have painted me to be.”
Representatives for Brooks have been contacted for comment.
