VIENNA (AP) — Sportunion marked it’s 80th anniversary with a celebratory service Friday evening at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Vienna.The event drew approximately 250 guests of honor from the Austrian sports adn political landscape.
Martin Poiger, President of Judo-Austria, attended the service, emphasizing Sportunion’s important role in the sport. “The sports union is a driving force in judo,” Poiger stated. “It accounts for a considerable portion, about a third, of the 170 judo clubs nationwide. These include former Bundesliga champions such as Flachgau, Pinzgau, and Su Noricum Leibnitz, which boasts European Championship competitors Verena and Lisa Tretnjak, among others.”
Pastor Toni Faber officiated the service, which featured musical performances by the Longfield Gospel Choir and the saxophone ensemble “Union Sax.” A highlight of the evening was a performance by Aerial Silk Vienna artists Sophie Pfaffstaller and Stefanie Rausch.
