Air India Plane Crash Kills Hundreds; Ukraine Battles Russia; Raducanu advances

An Air India Dreamliner crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad on June 12, killing more than 240 peopel. The London-bound flight, carrying 242 passengers and crew, crashed into a medical college hostel. Authorities have called it the world’s worst aviation disaster in a decade. One survivor, Ramesh Viswashkumar, a British national of Indian origin, is being treated at a local hospital.
Viswashkumar, 40, told reporters from his hospital bed that he was seated near an emergency exit and managed to jump out after hearing a loud noise.He was traveling with his brother after visiting family in India. “When I got up, there were bodies all around me. I was scared. I stood up and ran,” Viswashkumar told the Hindustan Times.
Meanwhile, in Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that Ukrainian forces are gradually pushing back Russian forces in the Sumy region. Russian forces have been moving into the area since April, following calls from President Vladimir Putin to create a buffer zone. reports indicate that russian troops have seized several villages despite Ukrainian resistance.
In sports news, Emma Raducanu powered into the quarter-finals at the queen’s Club Championships, defeating Rebecca Sramkova 6-4, 6-1. Raducanu is the only British player remaining in the tournament.She will face top seed Zheng Qinwen in the next round. Katie Boulter and Heather Watson were eliminated from the competition.
