Investment firms announce key executive moves, deals

Several investment firms have recently announced key executive appointments and
strategic acquisitions.
Houlihan capital, a valuation and investment banking firm, has appointed Paul C.
Stefunek as director of business development. Stefunek will focus on client
relationships in high-growth sectors. He previously held a similar role at
EdgePoint.
Evercore has welcomed Bennett Blau as a senior managing director in its healthcare
investment banking group. Blau, based in San Francisco, brings over 15 years of
experience, most recently from Goldman Sachs.
Martin & Company, an investment advisory firm, has promoted Darren Williams to
president and CEO. Williams, a 25-year veteran of the firm, previously led the
development of its small-cap equity strategy. Michael Holt, the previous CEO, will
remain involved in client relationships.
Turning Rock Partners, a private investment firm, has named Shahid Khoja as head of
credit. Khoja has nearly 20 years of experience in public and private credit
investing. He previously served as managing director and head of credit at Z
Capital Group.
Barings has appointed John Lippmann as head of U.S. real estate capital markets.
Lippmann will lead strategy and execution for U.S. debt and equity real estate
portfolios. He joins Barings from NYL Investors.
In deal news, Supernus Pharmaceuticals has agreed to acquire Sage Therapeutics for
up to $795 million. The acquisition includes Zurzuvae, an oral treatment for
postpartum depression.
TTAM Research Institute, founded by Anne Wojcicki, has won the bid to acquire
23andMe for $305 million. The deal includes 23andMe’s genome services and
telehealth unit.
Mitsubishi Corp. is reportedly in talks to acquire Aethon Energy Management’s U.S.
shale assets for around $8 billion, according to Reuters.
Commerce bancshares has agreed to acquire FineMark Holdings in an all-stock deal
valued at approximately $585 million. FineMark will retain its brand under
Commerce, with Joseph Catti joining as CEO of the new division.
Wedbush Financial Services has acquired a minority stake in Trigon,an investment
bank in Central and Eastern Europe.
Brookfield Infrastructure Partners has agreed to acquire Hotwire Communications from
Blackstone for approximately $7 billion.
Cohen & Steers, on behalf of its clients’ accounts, has invested $300 million in
Hudson Pacific Properties, a West Coast office REIT.
Lincoln Financial has launched LVIP American Funds Vanguard Active Passive Growth
Fund, available within American Legacy® and Lincoln Investor Advantage® variable
annuities.
Juniper square, a fund software and services provider, closed its Series D round at
a $1.1 billion valuation, securing $130 million in new funding.
Post Oak Energy Capital held the final close of its fifth primary fund, raising
$600 million and an additional $164 million through a co-investment vehicle.
