Alaska State Museum hosts Dorothy Grant haute couture retrospective
The Alaska State Museum showcases Dorothy Grant’s 40-year career in haute couture with the final First Friday exhibition of Raven Comes Full Circle. Grant, who was born in Hydaburg, Alaska, belongs to the Yahgw Janáas clan of the Haida Nation. As an internationally renowned fashion designer, she is celebrated for her unique design aesthetic and her critical role in bringing Indigenous fashion to the world stage. The retrospective remains on exhibit at the museum through Oct. 17.
Devil’s Club Brewing Company showcases local art and animal rescue fundraising
D’Cafango, a Lingit and Unangax̂ artist inspired by Southeast Alaska’s colors and funky textures, presents a mixed-media collection of linocut, cyanotype, and weaving titled Under the Same Moon. Alongside the exhibition, the brewery hosts Juneau Animal Rescue sales of New Leash on Life Hazy IPA to raise funds for JAR’s Second Chance Fund. The brewery also features an “adoptable art show” upstairs from Montessori Borealis classrooms, a kitten corner, and second chance success stories downstairs.

Other downtown venues host single-day openings and month-long showcases for First Friday. The Marie Drake Planetarium holds an open house for visitors to view the night sky on the digital projector without needing sign-ups. Juneau Woolies hosts Shaawat.gé Rae Mills for a ravenstail weaving demonstration, while The Pottery Jungle features Christina Schulte-Pereyra’s 10-mug collection inspired by past and present Fat Bear Week bears. The Baranof Hotel presents limited-edition treasure maps and poetry ciphers by Questscapes founders Louis Hoock and Lerina Winter, mapping real treasure across the Pacific Northwest. Additional exhibits include the Juneau Artists Gallery customer appreciation sale with 15 percent off everything through Oct. 10. Kindred Post hosts Katrina Lee for simmer pot sachet making and Jason Rivers for rune readings. Liase Studio exhibits mixed-media collages by multimedia artist Melissa Leeanne Lewis titled Slowly, Slowly. The Bear’s Lair welcomes Dena’ina artist Tori Talley for her Home Sweet Juneau ocean and mountain series. Wicks and Stones offers custom flower essence blends at 230 S. Franklin St. Ste 108.
