Juneteenth Celebrated as Federal Holiday in 2025

Juneteenth, observed annually on June 19, is now in its fifth year as a U.S. federal holiday. The holiday commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and has been celebrated for over 150 years, primarily within Black communities.
As gaining federal recognition, Juneteenth has broadened its reach, becoming more universally acknowledged.Across the nation, expect street festivals, fairs, concerts, and other public events. Some businesses and schools may be closed in observance of the juneteenth federal holiday.
President Joe Biden signed the Juneteenth National Independence Day Act into law in 2021, officially establishing it as a federal holiday. Illinois Gov. J.B.Pritzker also signed legislation that year, making Juneteenth a state holiday.
