‘Jurassic World Rebirth’ DirectorS Cut: Studio Asks for More
Updated June 28,2025
Filmmakers frequently enough fight for final cut to protect their artistic vision. Studios, however, sometimes have different ideas about a film’s pacing and length. In a twist, the studio behind the upcoming “Jurassic World Rebirth” asked director Gareth Edwards to *add* footage back into the movie.
Edwards, determined to keep the film under two hours, presented the studio with a 1 hour,59-minute cut after wrapping principal photography in October 2024,which began in June. The studio’s response? Put five minutes back in, Edwards said.
Despite the studio’s request, some scenes didn’t make the final cut. Edwards noted that three deleted scenes will probably be available on the home release. He reluctantly cut one scene after writer David Koepp suggested streamlining the third act.
Edwards explained the scene took place outside a gas station and involved a sense of being hunted. Koepp felt it interrupted the “run like hell” momentum of the film’s climax. While Edwards liked the scene, he conceded that removing it improved the movie’s pacing. This deleted scene will be available as an extra.
