Jurong Lake Gardens: Security Officers Help Ill Grandma, Family Grateful

Jurong Lake Gardens Visit Turns Stressful for Elderly Woman, Security Officers Praised

A 75-year-old woman experienced a health scare during her first visit to Jurong Lake Gardens on February 8, prompting a swift and reassuring response from two security officers. The incident, which occurred around 9pm, highlighted the importance of readily available assistance in public spaces.

According to her granddaughter, Ashiqah, who shared the story with Stomp, the visit was particularly meaningful as her grandmother had lived in Jurong her entire life but had never before had the opportunity to explore the gardens. The evening took a concerning turn when the grandmother, who has diabetes and blood pressure issues, suddenly began panting heavily and appeared weak during their walk.

Unable to locate immediate help, Ashiqah spotted a security contact number on a signboard near the Japanese Garden entrance and quickly made the call. The control room responded promptly, dispatching two officers – identified as Mr. Bala, and Mr. Akbar from Excellent Security & Safety – to their location.

“They arrived very quickly, within about five to 10 minutes,” Ashiqah said. “Their calm demeanour immediately reassured the family during a stressful moment.”

The officers assessed the grandmother’s condition, provided reassurance, and then transported the family via security buggy from the Japanese Garden area to the South Carpark, ensuring her comfort throughout the journey. “Their help felt like god-sent assistance at that moment, and express how grateful we are for their compassion and support,” Ashiqah stated.

Fortunately, no emergency medical treatment was required. The grandmother stabilized after returning home, resting, and rehydrating, though the family remains cautious given her pre-existing health conditions. Ashiqah emphasized that it was the officers’ “calmness, patience and genuine care” that provided the most comfort during a frightening experience. “They treated my grandmother with great respect and kindness, which gave us a lot of reassurance during a very stressful situation.”

Excellent Security & Safety acknowledged the incident, expressing gratitude for the positive feedback. In a statement to Stomp, the company said they were “truly touched to read about the experience” and “very grateful and relieved to know that the visitor and her grandmother were able to get home safely.”

The company further highlighted the dedication of its team, stating, “While our officers are trained to handle these situations, seeing them extend such genuine kindness is a proud moment for us.” They confirmed they would recognize the officers’ contributions.

Ashiqah shared the story in hopes of recognizing not only Mr. Bala and Mr. Akbar but also other frontline workers whose acts of kindness often go unnoticed. “Jurong Lake Gardens is known for its beautiful landscape, but it is the people behind the scenes who truly make public spaces safe and meaningful,” she said. “There were no cameras or crowds — just two individuals doing their duty with heart.”
