“Thanks to the complete use made by the Carabineros of the 52nd Police Station of Rinconada de Maipú, the wheelchair that was cowardly stolen from a national athlete in the last hours has been found. We continue to carry out the procedures to find the location of the criminals,” the organization said.
Alberto Abarza’s Ordeal
Alberto Abarza was the victim of a violent door slam last Thursday, when he was in his vehicle with his daughter, whom he saw again after his time at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
“Five boys, four got out (of a car) with firearms, very violently. They moved the door, they opened my daughter’s door, they started to pull on it, hit me. The only thing I did was look at my daughter, see that she was fine, that she got out of the car quickly,” the athlete recalled to T13.
Along with this, Abarza made a call to restore his wheelchair, explaining that “he has special measures. It only works for me and my sport, ultralight and carbon. I really hope they can return it to me. The car doesn’t matter to me.”
Wheelchair Recovery
The recovery of Alberto Abarza’s wheelchair is a significant development in the case, and the athlete is expected to be reunited with his custom-made wheelchair soon.
The incident highlights the importance of community support and the efforts of law enforcement agencies in recovering stolen property and bringing perpetrators to justice.
