Justin Hoh Set to Face Lee Zii Jia in Japan Masters After Stamina-Test Win

November 13, 2024 Catherine Williams Sports

Justin Hoh Advances in Japan Masters

Justin Hoh has reached the first round of the Japan Masters after defeating two South Korean players. He won against Jyeon Hyeok-jin 21-15, 21-15 and then faced Cho Geon-yeop, winning 21-15, 20-22, 21-17 in the qualifying rounds. Justin played for 114 minutes in total during these matches.

In his match against world No. 37 Jyeon, Justin showed strong performance despite Hyeok-jin’s history of upsetting higher-ranked players. In the second match, Justin came back from a 7-11 deficit in the third game to secure his victory over Geon-yeop, a semi-finalist at the recent Korean Masters.

The 20-year-old Justin will now compete against fellow Malaysian Lee Zii Jia, who is ranked No. 7 in the world. This match will be their first encounter in international competitions. Justin’s appearance in the Japan Masters marks only his second World Tour Super 500 event. His first was in the Hong Kong Open, where he gave a tough fight to Denmark’s Rasmus Gemke.

Lee Zii Jia is returning to competition after missing the Denmark Open due to an ankle injury. He needs a strong performance in this tournament to help qualify for the World Tour Finals in December. Zii Jia currently stands sixth in the Race to Hangzhou rankings.

In addition, another Malaysian player, Leong Jun Hao, will start his campaign against India’s Lakshya Sen, who is ranked No. 17 and has previously defeated Jun Hao in all three of their meetings.
