Non-English content accounts for a third of total views, with Netflix’s K-content ‘The Gray’ ranking in the top 10.
Netflix released its Engagement Report for the first half of the year, showcasing the content members around the world love.
The Netflix Watch Status Report, released twice a year, is a gauge that shows the viewing status of members over a six-month period. The report highlights the watch time and number of views for all produced and licensed works that have been viewed for at least 50,000 hours.
In the first half of the year, Netflix enjoyed a variety of content with approximately 94 billion hours of viewing. Non-English content from countries such as Spain, France, Italy, and Japan accounted for a third of the total viewership.
Korean Content on the Rise
A total of three Korean content ranked in the top 10, including “Queen of Tears” (29 million views), “Parasite: The Grey” (25 million views), and “My Demon” (18 million views). Notably, “Parasite: The Grey” by director Yeon Sang-ho is the only K-content produced by Netflix.
The report also highlights the growing global base of Korean content, with Netflix supporting various localization processes while maintaining flexibility in the form of contracts with domestic partners.
Most Popular Content by Genre
Action, thriller, and drama genres such as “Damzel,” “Lift: Steal the Plane,” “Griselda,” and “Three Bodies” were beloved, along with romantic comedies like “Mother of the Bride” and “The Queen of Tears.” New reality shows like “Love Experiment: Blind Love” also gained popularity, while family animation and documentary genres like “American Nightmare” and “The Greatest Night in Pop History” recorded stable viewership numbers.
