Musgraves recently debuted several songs from Middle of Nowhere during a surprise appearance at Coachella. She is also scheduled to perform at the ACM Awards on May 17 as part of a Prime Video broadcast. Prior to the tour’s launch, Musgraves will perform a three-night run at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas, from May 3-5.

The performances at Gruene Hall will be supported by a family of musicians who were recently detained by ICE agents but subsequently released, as reported by the Texas Tribune. The family, comprised of three siblings born in Mexico and raised in Texas, performs in a mariachi band.
Musgraves described Middle of Nowhere as leaning into “western tropes and elements” she grew up with, incorporating pedal steel, Norteño accordion, and other textures. She added that she aimed to “flip things on their head a bit” while maintaining a “simple and nostalgic framework.”
The album features songs like “Abilene,” described as a campfire tale with a twist, and “Everybody Wants To Be a Cowboy,” which explores themes of commitment. Other tracks include “Rhinestoned,” characterized by a “Jive Talkin’”-style groove, and “Mexico Honey,” which features a more loose and energetic style.
