Kacey Musgraves has released the title track and opening song from her upcoming seventh studio album, Middle of Nowhere, which is set for release on May 1, 2026, through Lost Highway Records.
The song, which Musgraves describes as both a mission statement and a thematic thesis for the record, features sunlit acoustic strums and a low-end thump, with the artist declaring, “it’s just me and me and that’s all I need.”
Musgraves explained that the album was created during the longest single period of her life, a time she found to be “incredible being alone and existing in a space not defined by anyone else.” She said she became fascinated with the concept of liminal space — both geographical and emotional — and the discomfort of remaining undefined.

The album follows her 2024 release Deeper Well and includes guest appearances from Willie Nelson on “Uncertain, Texas,” Miranda Lambert on “Horses and Divorces,” Billy Strings on “Everybody Wants To Be a Cowboy,” and Gregory Alan Isakov on “Coyote.”
Musgraves said she intentionally leaned into western tropes and nostalgic elements from her upbringing, aiming for a simple and traditional framework.
She will promote the album with a surprise appearance at Coachella on April 18, 2026, followed by a performance on Prime Video’s ACM Awards on May 17, 2026.
The lead single, “Dry Spell,” was released on March 11, 2026, alongside the album announcement and a music video set in a grocery store.
