Kailash Gahlot Resigns from AAP: Pressure from CBI-ED and Controversies Spark Political Turmoil in Delhi

Kailash Gahlot Resigns from AAP and Delhi Cabinet

Kailash Gahlot, a Delhi minister, resigned from both the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Delhi government. He cited “embarrassing and awkward controversies” and the failure to fulfill promises to citizens as reasons for his departure. Gahlot has been part of the Kejriwal administration since 2015 and announced his resignations on social media.

In his resignation letter, Gahlot expressed gratitude to Arvind Kejriwal for the opportunity to serve the people of Delhi. He noted his commitment to public service and stated that he had “no option” but to resign from AAP.

Gahlot highlighted the failure to clean the Yamuna River, mentioning it is now more polluted than ever. He pointed out issues like the controversial ‘Sheesh Mahal’, questioning the party’s alignment with the common man’s interests. He expressed concern that AAP is prioritizing political ambitions over people’s rights, which hampers service delivery.

He acknowledged that meaningful progress requires collaboration, not conflict with the central government. Gahlot described grave internal challenges facing AAP, which threaten its foundational values, leaving many promises unfulfilled as assembly elections approach.

AAP’s Reaction

AAP leaders claimed that Gahlot’s resignation was forced by pressures from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (I-T) department. Durgesh Pathak, an AAP MLA, stated Gahlot was effectively compelled to leave due to these pressures. Sanjay Singh, another AAP MP, echoed this sentiment, suggesting that Gahlot’s statements were scripted by the BJP.

BJP’s Response

BJP leaders welcomed Gahlot’s resignation. Kapil Mishra noted that Gahlot’s remarks suggest serious issues within AAP and the Delhi government. Virendraa Sachdeva, Delhi BJP President, said Gahlot’s actions reflect a rejection of Kejriwal’s leadership and corruption.

Gahlot has not indicated any intention to join the BJP at this time. His resignation raises critical questions about AAP’s future and integrity as elections approach.
