Kaldero: New Asian Dining Experience Opens at Former Wagamama Spot on St Stephen’s Green
Kaldero: A New Asian Restaurant in Dublin
Kaldero is a new Asian restaurant located next to St Stephen’s Green Shopping Centre in Dublin. It opens on Friday, taking over the former Wagamama space on South King Street.
Culinary Diversity
The name Kaldero means “pot” in Filipino, reflecting the diverse menu that features Indian, Chinese, and Filipino dishes. Chefs Richie Castillo (Filipino), Daren Liew (Chinese), and Alfred Prasad (Indian) have crafted the menus.
Staff and Concept
Kaldero will employ 40 full- and part-time staff. Most of these employees are from Wagamama, which closed its Dublin branches in September after franchise negotiations failed. The restaurant aims to provide a fresh dining experience, blending different culinary influences.
Interior Design
The restaurant’s interiors include elements designed by the Irish team O’Donnell O’Neill. They incorporate hand-tufted wool art, orange leather seating, and LED lighting to create a cozy atmosphere. The bar and open kitchen feature white marble countertops, and reclaimed timber and terracotta tiling add character.
Dining Experience
Kaldero encourages shared dining with small plates and variety in its menu. The restaurant will launch a lunch menu next week and introduce brunch options in the new year. It can seat up to 110 guests and will operate from midday to 10pm, accepting both reservations and walk-ins.
Menu Highlights
Kaldero’s menu ranges in price from €9 to €18 for small plates and €24 to €39.50 for larger dishes. Notable items include:
- Lobster and Prawn Spring Rolls (€18)
- Chicken 65 (€13)
- Amritsari Fish (€11)
- Scallops (€16)
The restaurant aims to provide a unique dining experience with flavors that complement each other, especially highlighting the distinct profile of Filipino cuisine.
Future Plans
Kaldero opens to the public this Friday. While Press Up will not continue operations at the former Wagamama in Dundrum, they plan to announce a new restaurant concept in Blanchardstown in the new year.
