The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) raised the alert level to 3, signifying an increased likelihood of a hazardous eruption within weeks. This prompted the mandatory evacuation of residents within a six-kilometer danger zone surrounding the volcano.

The distribution of food packs and other essential supplies to affected families has already begun.
Volcanic Activity Continues
On Monday, the summit vent of Kanlaon Volcano produced a massive ash plume that soared to 4,000 meters. Pyroclastic density currents, fast-moving currents of hot gas and volcanic debris, also descended the volcano’s slopes.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) continues to monitor the volcano closely and warns of the possibility of further eruptions in the coming weeks.
