MANILA – The recent eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island has forced over 40,000 people from their homes, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).The NDRRMC reported Thursday that 11,791 families, totaling 40,489 individuals, have been affected across 25 barangays in Western Visayas and Central Visayas.

as the situation unfolds, 27 evacuation centers are currently providing shelter to 4,630 families, or 15,334 individuals. An additional 677 families, comprising 2,522 people, are receiving aid outside of these centers.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development, local goverment units, and non-governmental organizations have mobilized to provide assistance to those affected. To date, over PHP6.43 million in aid has been distributed.
