A tornado-warned storm caused significant damage in Miami County, Kansas, on Monday, April 13, 2026, with footage of the event captured by a Kansas City SCOUT traffic camera as the system passed over U.S. 169 Highway.

The severe weather system impacted multiple areas within Miami County, including the town of Hillsdale and the city of Ottawa. Radar data confirmed the presence of debris in Ottawa, Hillsdale and Mound City.

Undersheriff Matt Kelly reported to KSHB 41 News that Miami County sustained significant damage as a result of the storms. In Ottawa, the damage was described as clear, and local authorities monitored reports of power outages and structural impacts.

The KSHB 41 Weather team monitored the region as several Kansas City-area counties were placed under a tornado watch that was scheduled to remain in effect through 11 p.m. On April 13, 2026.

By 10:05 p.m. On April 13, 2026, the tornado watch for the immediate Kansas City metro area was canceled. However, the watch remained in effect for Miami County in Kansas, as well as Cass, Bates, Henry, and Johnson counties in Missouri.

Meteorologist Wes Peery of KSHB 41 provided analysis of the SCOUT traffic camera footage, which showed the tornado-warned storm moving across the U.S. 169 Highway corridor.
