Kansas Jayhawks men’s basketball head coach Bill Self has extended a scholarship offer to Jalen Davis, one of the top-ranked high school guards in the Class of 2027, the program announced Monday.
The offer marks a significant recruiting move for the Jayhawks, who are targeting elite talent in the 2027 cycle while simultaneously working to finalize their 2026 class, which includes ongoing recruitment of top prospect Tyran Stokes.
Davis Emerges as Coveted Prospect
Davis, a 6-foot-3, 165-pound combo guard from Bremerton High School in Washington, is ranked among the top 20 prospects nationally in the 2027 class. His versatility as a scorer at all three levels—combined with his defensive intensity—has drawn attention from major college programs across the country.
During a recent weekend on the Adidas 3SSB circuit for 17U players, Davis played for the club team Slow Grind Elite, where he averaged 25.5 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.8 assists across four games. His performance reinforced his reputation as a dynamic playmaker with the potential to thrive at the collegiate level.
At Bremerton High School, Davis has already established himself as one of the state’s most accomplished players. He was named the Gatorade Boys Basketball Player of the Year for Washington State in the 2025-26 season and has surpassed 2,000 career points. His success on the court has made him a priority target for several high-major programs, including local powers Gonzaga, UCLA, and Washington, where he has taken his lone official visit to date.
Kansas Joins Competitive Recruiting Field
Despite his proximity to the University of Washington—Bremerton High School is located just over an hour from the school’s Seattle campus—Davis has kept his recruitment open to programs nationwide. In addition to Kansas, he holds scholarship offers from Big 12 programs Houston and Texas Tech, among others.
Davis publicly acknowledged the Kansas offer on social media, posting a message that read, I am Blessed to receive a D1 offer from the University of Kansas #notcommited
alongside a celebratory video.
The Jayhawks’ pursuit of Davis reflects the program’s ongoing efforts to secure elite perimeter talent under Self, who has consistently prioritized high-impact guards in recent recruiting cycles. Kansas remains a perennial contender in the Big 12 and nationally, making it an attractive destination for top prospects.
Next Steps in Recruitment
While Davis has not yet scheduled additional official visits, his recruitment is expected to intensify in the coming months as more programs enter the mix. His decision timeline remains unclear, but his status as a consensus top-20 prospect ensures that Kansas and other suitors will maintain aggressive pursuit.
For now, the Jayhawks have positioned themselves as a serious contender in what promises to be one of the most closely watched recruitments in the 2027 class.
