K-State Football Dominates Cincinnati, 41-15

Kansas State celebrated its senior night with a strong 41-15 victory over Cincinnati. This was the first meeting between these teams as members of the Big 12 Conference. DJ Giddens led the Wildcats with 143 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Avery Johnson contributed with 147 passing yards, two passing touchdowns, and a rushing touchdown. This win improved K-State’s record to 8-3 overall and 5-3 in the Big 12, marking their fourth straight season with at least eight wins.

K-State’s head coach, Chris Klieman, praised his team’s energy and response to recent defeats. The Wildcats started fast, establishing a one-dimensional game for Cincinnati and showcasing a powerful rushing attack. K-State ran for 281 yards, averaging 7.0 yards per carry.

Johnson’s 34-yard run on the first play energized the crowd at Bill Snyder Family Stadium. He quickly followed with a 21-yard touchdown run, putting the Wildcats ahead early. K-State extended their lead with a 32-yard touchdown run from Giddens, making it 20-0.

Cincinnati managed a field goal, but K-State’s Brendan Mott intercepted a pass and set up another touchdown. Johnson connected with Tre Spivey for a 6-yard touchdown, bringing the score to 27-3 at halftime.

The Wildcats’ defense was strong, stopping Cincinnati on several fourth downs. The Bearcats struggled offensively, unable to maintain drives. They only converted 3 of 12 third downs and failed to convert all five fourth downs they attempted.

Cincinnati scored their first touchdown late in the third quarter. Despite this, K-State responded with a drive concluding in another Giddens touchdown. Giddens now has 3,015 career rushing yards, ranking among the best in school history.

In the final quarter, K-State secured another touchdown pass from Johnson to Will Swanson. Johnson’s 19 touchdown passes set a new school record for a sophomore.

K-State’s victory not only highlighted their senior class but also reaffirmed their status as a competitive team in the Big 12.
