Investigative journalist Maik Fellner and former LKA investigator Karin Wegemann encounter a child-trafficking ring in Potsdam, according to television production documentation released by BR and Wiedemann & Berg Television GmbH.
Investigation Origins and the Potsdam Connection
Karin Wegemann, a former active-duty LKA operative currently teaching aspiring colleagues at a police school, is pulled back into fieldwork following an encounter with investigative journalist Maik Fellner. Fellner has spent years reporting on child trafficking in Germany, though his published articles have yielded no institutional impact and his findings have been dismissed as defamation. Seeking an active police partner, Fellner pressures Wegemann with concrete intelligence provided by a 14-year-old female witness who linked a Potsdam-based child-trafficking ring to active local operations.
After convincing her superiors that she possesses the necessary emotional stability for active deployment, Wegemann secures a transfer to Brandenburg. She begins local investigations alongside an initially opaque Potsdam colleague named Ronald Krug, whose character is portrayed by actor Mišel Maticevic.
Uncovering the Ring Through Vulnerable Witnesses
Assisted by Victor—whose girlfriend Laura has also faced exposure to the child-trafficking network—Wegemann identifies a 10-year-old girl named Lucy, played by Carlotta von Falkenhayn. Lucy is discovered sitting alone at a railway station with conspicuous makeup. When Wegemann approaches the child, prominent Potsdam construction entrepreneur Kai Voss arrives urgently at the scene and claims to be Lucy’s father.
Although Krug and public prosecutor Mack vouch for Kai Voss and his wife Helen Voss, Wegemann recognizes underlying warning signs. Expanding her independent surveillance, she discovers that a second child named Vanessa resides in the Voss household alongside Lucy. The investigation places Wegemann in severe personal danger as the perpetrators realize an active law enforcement witness is pursuing them.
