Karlovy Vary Film Festival Announces 2025 Lineup

The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF), a prestigious film festival in Eastern Europe, has announced
its lineup for its 59th edition, scheduled for July 4-12. The Karlovy Vary film festival will showcase a diverse
selection of films, including 11 of the 12 entries in the Crystal Globe Competition. Organizers are withholding
the title of the 12th film, an entry from Iran, to ensure the safety of its creators.
Karel Och, KVIFF artistic director, stated that the announcement of the iranian film would be postponed until
closer to the festival.
The Crystal Globe jury includes Mexican producer Nicolás Celis, filmmaker Babak Jalali, film critic Jessica Kiang,
and Czech actor/director Jiří Mádl.
och emphasized the artistic integrity of the filmmakers,noting their dedication to challenging expectations and
connecting with audiences,regardless of budgetary limitations. The festival’s Proxima Competition will feature
13 titles, alongside special screenings and the premiere presentation of the digitally restored Czech comedy
“Ecce Homo Homolka.”
Editor Jiří Brožek, credited with over 100 Czech films and a nine-time Czech Lion Award winner, will receive
KVIFF’s 2025 President’s Award. the festival will also present the film “The Death of the Beautiful Deer” in his
honor.
This year’s Karlovy Vary film festival will also feature an extensive retrospective of Golden Age Hollywood actor
John garfield. Garfield, known for his roles in “The Postman Always Rings Twice,” “Humoresque,” and “Body and
Soul,” faced career challenges after being identified as a potential communist. He refused to name names before
Congress. Garfield died in May 1952 at the age of 39. The tribute will include works such as “They Made Me a
Criminal,” “Dust Be My Destiny,” and “The Breaking Point.”
