Production Background and Creative Leadership
Production on the series is handled by Mediawan’s Method Animation for Warner Bros. Discovery. Jordan Gershowitz serves as executive producer, showrunner, and head writer for the project. Gershowitz brings extensive experience in children’s television animation, having previously worked on Gigantosaurus, Hot Wheels Let’s Race, Thomas & Friends: All Engines Go, Octonauts: Above & Beyond, Rubble & Crew, and earning a Children’s & Family Emmy Award nomination for writing an episode of The Tiny Chef Show. According to Animation Magazine, Gershowitz joined the production after the series had already received its greenlight and established its core world, heroes, and villains. Gershowitz noted that his focus involved retooling and refocusing the series while drawing on his prior experience co-developing and head writing Hot Wheels Let’s Race. The creative process required evaluating existing foundational concepts, refining the comedy-adventure tone, and emphasizing relationship dynamics among the main characters.
Unipet Mechanics and Narrative Engine
The narrative centers on Unipets, living magical animals distributed throughout the world that possess unique abilities. When a Unipet lends its power to a go-kart, the vehicle gains extraordinary capabilities. Rather than serving as passive collectibles or simple power-ups, the Unipets maintain distinct personalities, quirks, and feelings. The core conflict involves a revolving door of age-appropriate antagonists who attempt to exploit the Unipets for selfish reasons. The young protagonists operate as protectors of the creatures rather than owners, establishing a central moral framework for the audience. Gershowitz stated that the discovery element of encountering new Unipets with unique powers and personalities drives the episodic adventure engine of the show.
