Minnesota’s Food Scene Wins Big at James Beard Awards
Minnesota’s vibrant food scene is celebrating after a prosperous weekend at the James Beard Awards. The state’s culinary excellence and commitment to food systems were recognized with multiple honors.
U.S. Rep. Angie Craig, representing Minnesota’s 2nd Congressional District, received an Impact Award from the James Beard Foundation. These awards recognize “changemakers actively working to push for standards that create a more equitable, lasting, and economically viable restaurant industry and food system for producers, workers, and consumers alike.”
Craig, unable to attend the Chicago ceremony due to the ongoing search for a suspect in the shootings of state officials, sent a statement expressing her gratitude.
“Food should not be a privilege – but the ability to gather around the dinner table with folks you love certainly is. I’m especially reminded of that this weekend in Minnesota,” she said. “In times like these, it’s more important then ever that we find strength in community. so, I want to thank the James Beard foundation community — and my fellow honorees — for creating this incredible community that is making a difference in the lives of everyday people.”
adding to the accolades, TPT’s “Relish,” hosted by chef Yia Vang, secured a James Beard Broadcast media Award. The show triumphed over “Top Chef” and “Lidia Celebrates america: Changemakers” in the lifestyle visual media category.
“Relish” earned recognition for its excellence in food-centric programming that explores food and beverage within broader societal and cultural contexts. The James Beard awards highlight the critically important role Minnesota plays in the national food landscape, celebrating both culinary talent and dedication to food system improvements.
