For actress Katherine LaNasa, portraying Dana evans, the charge nurse on HBO’s medical drama “The Pitt,” isn’t always glamorous. In a recent interview,lanasa revealed that the most tough word she’s had to deliver on screen was “campylobacter.” Describing it as “bacteria in poop or something,” she highlighted the show’s commitment to realistic, and sometimes unpleasant, medical detail. According to the Cleveland Clinic, Campylobacter infection is a common cause of diarrhea, often contracted through undercooked poultry, raw milk, or untreated water.
LaNasa’s dedication to her role extends beyond simply reciting difficult terminology. She described a coping mechanism for especially graphic scenes: “I got outside my body when it’s happening,” she explained. “I prepare myself to just go outside my body when it happens.”
A Personal Connection to the Hospital Setting
Interestingly, LaNasa’s connection to the hospital habitat runs deeper than her role might suggest. Just six months before landing the part on “The Pitt,” she received a stage 1 breast cancer diagnosis. “When I first walked onto the set I was a little triggered by it because after you have cancer, all you do is go to the hospital,” she shared. Though,she noted that the initial feeling of unease quickly subsided,allowing her to fully immerse herself in the character and the demands of the role.
Season 2: Diamonds, Disgust, and a Fourth of July Pick-Up
Production for Season 2 of “The Pitt” officially began in June, with filming split between the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, California, and on location in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The season is slated to premiere in January 2026, picking up ten months after the events of Season 1, set against the backdrop of a Fourth of July weekend. LaNasa hinted at a particularly “revolting” scene in episode 2, playfully revealing she requested “some diamonds” from the producer as compensation for having to deliver the lines.
Season 1 of “The Pitt” uniquely structured each of its 15 episodes to unfold over a single hour of a grueling 15-hour hospital shift. This immersive format is expected to continue in the upcoming season.
Emmy Recognition and Future Prospects
The first season of “The Pitt” garnered significant critical acclaim, earning a total of 13 Emmy nominations, including nods for Noah Wyle as lead actor in a drama series and for Katherine LaNasa as supporting actress. The Emmy Awards will be presented on September 14, with final voting taking place between August 18 and August 27.
