Boulter shared screenshots of the disturbing messages, including one wishing she would get cancer and another threatening her family with “candles and a coffin.” One message read, “Go to hell, I lost money my mother sent me.”
The death threat arrived while Boulter was competing in her French Open first-round match against Carole Monnet, which she won. She described the vulnerability athletes feel, unsure if the senders are nearby or know their home address.
Boulter also addressed the explicit images she has received, expressing concern for younger players who might be exposed to such content. She emphasized the need to protect youngsters from this type of online harassment and understand the role of online safety.
“As far as death threats, it’s just not something you want to be reading straight after an emotional loss. A lot of the time you get it after you win as well,” Boulter said.
