KCCI-TV, the CBS affiliate in Des Moines, is the leading news source in central Iowa, capturing 19% more viewers then any competitor, according to Nielsen’s preliminary Live+ Same Day data from May 2025. The station secured top ratings among adults aged 25-54 during key time slots, including 4:30-7 a.m. and 5-6 p.m., solidifying its position as the area’s top choice for local news.
The Hearst-owned station saw significant growth in its morning news programming. KCCI 8 News this Morning at 5 a.m. experienced a 22% increase in audience share among adults 25-54 compared to the previous year. The 6 a.m. broadcast saw even greater gains, wiht audience shares rising by 25%.
