KDA’s Beef Genetics Trade Mission: Enhancing Cattle Production in Mexico
KDA Visits Mexico for Beef Genetics Trade Mission
In November 2024, the Kansas Department of Agriculture (KDA) joined the New Mexico Department of Agriculture and the International Brangus Breeders Association on a trade mission to Mexico. The mission took place from November 4 to November 7 and focused on beef genetics.
Representatives from KDA included Assistant Secretary Josh McGinn and Agribusiness Coordinator Tessa Beeman. The team spent three days in Sonora, where they visited several ranches, including Santa Cecilia Angus, El Cosari Ranch, La Muira Ranch, Santa Patricia Brangus, Sierra Angus Ranch, and a cattle feedlot at Rancho el 17.
Grant Goree, a board member of the International Junior Brangus Breeders Association, shared his impressions: “Witnessing the Brangus breed thrive in Hermosillo’s tough environment was eye-opening. My respect for our breed grew as I saw its resilience and adaptability in action.”
KDA aims to support agriculture by creating opportunities for producers to market and sell beef genetics both domestically and internationally. This mission was funded through KDA’s membership in U.S. Livestock Genetics Export, Inc. (USLGE) with support from the USDA Market Access Program.
