Keegan Bradley Weighs Ryder Cup Playing Captain Possibility
Keegan Bradley’s recent victory has opened the door to a possibility he hadn’t seriously considered: serving as a playing captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup. Bradley, currently ranked No.9 in the Ryder Cup standings and a career-best No. 7 in the world, is carefully evaluating what role would best serve the U.S. team at Bethpage Black.
Bradley said that before his win, he was content to focus solely on captaining. “I definitely wasn’t going to play if I didn’t win,” Bradley told Golf Channel. “I wont to put my team in the best position to win. If we get down to it and that me playing is how that’s going to be … I will play if I feel like it will help the team.”
He clarified that if he does play, he would not replace one of his vice captains – Jim Furyk, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson, or Brandt Snedeker – but would serve as a playing captain.
The top six players in the points standings after the BMW Championship on Aug. 17 will automatically qualify for the team. Scottie Scheffler, Xander Schauffele, and J.J.Spaun currently hold the top three spots. Russell Henley, Bryson DeChambeau, and Justin Thomas round out the top six.
Following them in the standings are Collin Morikawa, Ben Griffin, Bradley, Harris English, Maverick McNealy, and Brian Harman.
Bradley expressed that focusing on playing allows him to escape the constant ryder Cup considerations. “When I’m inside the ropes, it’s the only time I can escape this Ryder Cup thing,” he said.
