Keeley Breaks Glass Ceiling: Last-Minute FA Cup Goal Shocks Fans

December 1, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Sports

In a thrilling FA Cup match, Josh Keeley, a goalkeeper from the Republic of Ireland, scored an equalizer for Leyton Orient against Oldham Athletic. Keeley’s goal came in the ninth minute of stoppage time after Oldham had taken the lead with a goal from Manny Monthe early in the second half.

As the match progressed, Oldham led until Keeley jumped for a free-kick and headed the ball into the net, sending the game into extra time. In the first extra period, Dan Agyei missed a penalty but redeemed himself by scoring the winning goal in stoppage time. He connected with a corner kick to secure victory for Leyton Orient.

Oldham took the lead just two minutes into the second half when Monthe scored from a long throw. Leyton Orient pressed late in the game, finally finding the equalizer through Keeley’s effort. In a dramatic conclusion, Agyei’s penalty miss was followed by his late header that clinched the win.

Orient head coach Richie Wellens praised Keeley’s performance, comparing it to the famous last-minute goal by Jimmy Glass for Carlisle United in 1999. Wellens expressed pride in Keeley’s character and the team effort.
