Gastelum aims for UFC Gold After Hall of Fame Induction
Updated June 8, 2025
Kelvin Gastelum is setting his sights on future UFC gold, even as he prepares for induction into the UFC Hall of Fame. The middleweight fighter will be honored for his epic 2019 battle against Israel Adesanya. Though, Gastelum feels the honor is premature.
“I don’t think it really has sunk in,” Gastelum said. He added that such accolades “should be happening to old, retired men and I’m far from that.I’m still here. I still want to prove a point and I’m still searching for that gold.”
Gastelum also weighed in on his competition, especially those outside the top tier. He suggested some fighters haven’t faced opponents of his caliber. He cited jack Hermansson as an example, noting that while hermansson is a “great athlete, great fighter,” he isn’t the “most polished striker.”
Gastelum believes that once fighters reach the “upper echelon, top 15, top ten, even the top five guys, it’s just a whole different kind of fight, a whole different kind of pressure and a whole different kind of punch that you’ll feel.”
What’s next
Gastelum, after his recent fight in Newark, NJ, will travel to Las Vegas for the Hall of Fame induction. He remains focused on climbing the ranks and securing a championship title in the middleweight division.
