Keira Knightley Reflects on Fame and Rejects Return to Pirates Franchise

November 26, 2024 Catherine Williams - Chief Editor Entertainment

Keira Knightley, known for her role in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, has decided not to return to franchise films. She gained fame at 17 and became a two-time Oscar nominee. In a recent interview with The Times of London, Knightley reflected on her complicated relationship with fame. She noted that her early success came with criticism, which made her feel misunderstood.

Knightley starred as Elizabeth Swann in the first three Pirates of the Caribbean films from 2003 to 2007, alongside Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp. She explained that the demanding schedules and lack of control over filming locations deter her from participating in similar projects.

In her interview, Knightley also discussed the challenges she faced regarding her image and mental health. She mentioned past speculation about her health that impacted her deeply, emphasizing that such experiences left lasting memories of public shaming.

Currently, Knightley is stepping back from acting to focus on her family but will appear in Netflix’s upcoming spy-thriller series Black Doves. The series will be released on December 5 and features Ben Whishaw.
