Kendra Duggar remains firmly aligned with her husband Joseph Duggar and his family despite ongoing legal proceedings and public fallout from his arrest on sexual abuse charges, according to sources close to the situation.
Joseph Duggar, 31, was arrested in Florida on March 31 following extradition from Arkansas, where he faces accusations of sexually abusing a minor who was nine years old at the time of the alleged incident. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and was released from custody after one day, reuniting with Kendra shortly thereafter.
An insider speaking exclusively to Us Weekly stated that Kendra has “totally sided with the Duggars and not her family,” adding, “I don’t know if it’s fear or naivete, but Kendra has totally sided with the Duggars and not her family. She is brainwashed.” The source further claimed that Kendra’s parents, Christina and Paul Caldwell, are receiving little to no support from either side, with the Duggars allegedly taking retaliatory actions against them.
According to the same source, the Caldwells have had utilities cut off at their residence and are being pressured to leave the area. “I can’t believe how [the Duggars] have treated [the Caldwells],” the source said. “They want them out. They had the lights and electricity cut off from the house they are in. It’s awful. They are trying to get out.”
The Caldwells previously broke their silence on Joseph’s arrest in a social media statement posted on April 15, expressing sorrow for the alleged victim and affirming their support for her. “Our family is both troubled and heartbroken over the alleged actions committed by our son-in-law,” the statement read. “We are devastated for the young girl, a child who was courageous in every way to share her truth. We stand by her, both in support and prayer, and forever will. Our love for this child remains at the forefront of our family’s priorities and minds.”
The statement also acknowledged the impact on their grandchildren and reiterated their love for Kendra, despite the turmoil. “Although Kendra’s family said they pray for all victims of crimes, they also ‘recognize how traumatic this incident has been for our grandchildren as well and continue to pray for their strength. Our love for them, and our daughter Kendra, remains.’”
In response to the escalating tension, the Caldwells launched a GoFundMe campaign earlier in April to cover moving and housing expenses, citing the need to distance themselves from the ongoing situation. Kendra’s father, who works as a mechanic and a pastor, said the funds would go toward “moving expenses [and] housing costs such as rent until we can find a place to stay more permanently.”
A source close to the Caldwells told Us Weekly that Christina and Paul are doing everything they can to protect their family and leave the area. “Right now, Christina and Paul are doing everything they can for their family,” the source shared. “They want to get out of there and get away [from the Duggars]. How would you feel if every place you went, you ran into someone you didn’t want to see? There are so many of them. They just need to be out of there.”
The alleged incident reportedly occurred during a vacation involving Joseph, Kendra, and her family, with no other Duggar relatives present. According to the source, the accuser did not immediately understand what had happened but gained clarity over time and eventually disclosed the abuse to her family, who then reported it to authorities.
“I don’t know if [the alleged victim] knew what happened at the time. I think as years passed, she understood more and got the courage to tell her family,” the source claimed. “Just like the police report says, when she told her family, they acted on it. It took a lot for her to come forward. But she is not scared. She is strong. She doesn’t want to hide.”
As of now, the identity of the accuser has not been made public, though Kendra’s mother has reportedly acknowledged to others in their church that the victim is known to the family. Us Weekly has reached out to representatives for both the Duggar and Caldwell families for comment but has not received a response at the time of reporting.
