Kenneth Jonassen Takes Helm as Malaysia’s Singles Badminton Coach: Wong Choong Hann’s Confidence in Future Success

Wong Choong Hann believes that Kenneth Jonassen will bring success to Malaysian badminton as the new national singles head coach. Choong Hann, who previously held the same position for four-and-a-half years, understands the challenges Jonassen will face.

Choong Hann congratulated Jonassen on his appointment, calling it a significant decision. He noted that the role comes with great responsibility in a badminton-focused nation like Malaysia, similar to challenges in countries like Indonesia and China. Choong Hann highlighted Jonassen’s experience and past successes, expressing optimism for Malaysian badminton’s future under his leadership.

Jonassen will oversee both the men’s and women’s singles and will officially start his duties on January 4. In a related update, Choong Hann is adjusting to his new role as head coach in Hong Kong after being promoted from singles coach. He is currently managing a transition period within the Hong Kong Badminton Association.

Choong Hann mentioned that he is learning more about the badminton system. He is in the process of recruiting more staff to stabilize operations and enhance performance. He is in Malaysia for a few days due to family matters before heading to Hangzhou for the World Tour Finals from December 11 to 15.

At the Finals, Hong Kong will be represented by the world No. 6 mixed doubles pair, Tang Chun Man and Tse Ying Suet. Choong Hann noted that it has been a busy period for him since taking on his new responsibilities.
