The Wildcats’ prowess was on full display in Paris, with nine​ athletes earning a remarkable 13 medals, contributing to Team USA’s world-leading medal count⁣ of 40 golds and 126 total medals.

“We remain so proud of the way ‌the Wildcats represented Team USA in Paris,” said UK Athletics Director‍ Mitch Barnhart. “Thank you to the USOPC for this recognition. The University of Kentucky and the enterprise of college athletics remain an important springboard in creating opportunities for talented and hard-working athletes to develop and compete on the world stage.”

Six former Wildcats who honed their skills at the university⁣ where instrumental in securing four gold ​medals for Team USA. This included the three Wildcats on the U.S.men’s basketball team (Bam ‍Adebayo,‍ Devin Booker, and Anthony Davis) who claimed gold, as well as ​Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Alexis Holmes, who‍ were part of the victorious women’s 4x400m relay team. McLaughlin-Levrone also secured individual gold in the 400m hurdles, while Masai Russell added to the Wildcats’ haul with gold in the 100m hurdles.
